Spanning a period of over twenty years, Café Society has forged a special relationship with European artisans and manufacturers who still fabricate the café tables, chairs, hardware, and various bits and pieces that make the café experience memorable as well as delicious.
Our vision at Café Society is, quite simply, to bring the lively European café lifestyle to you. Co-founders, Joan and Steve Osburn, see the café lifestyle as an opportunity to put time on hold, to enjoy meaningful and illuminating conversation, to linger, to reflect, to know oneself and others better, to relax and appreciate the art and beauty of daily life. The Osburns have an eye for and access to the breadth of new and antique products that make Paris, Paris and café society, café society.
The role of cafes throughout European society was firmly established by the mid-1600s. Cafes are the ingenious coming together of taverns, which originally sold predominantly wine and spirits, and coffeehouses, which focused on coffee and deep discussions. Some early patrons of cafes even drank wine in their coffee, symbolically blending the history and purpose of the two establishments into their single cup.. Cafes have now evolved to include the sale of wine, beer, spirits, coffee, food and pastries.
Aperitifs, assignations and artistry; coffee, conversation and camaraderie; people-watching, passing the time and pondering the news; revelry, resistance, revolution and romance, the role of the café in society both endures and fires the imagination.
